Treatment planning for children in the primary dentition stage, by(Prof. Sondos Albadri):
This lecture will focus on discussing common conditions affecting Children aged 0 -6 years old and the principles of treatment planning including the application of Evidence Based Minimal invasive techniques to manage caries and the use of different pain management modalities including general anaesthesia.
Learning outcomes:
At the end of this lecture you should:
Be able to describe common conditions affecting children in their primary dentition.
Have knowledge of evidence base MID and how it can be applied to manage children in their primary dentition.
Understand the basic principles required for treatment planning for children according to the pain control modality employed.
Treatment planning for children in the mixed and permanent dentition stage, by(Prof. Sondos Albadri):
This lecture will focus on the assessment and treatment planning of children aged 6-12 years old including the use of inhalation sedation and comprehensive treatment under general anaesthesia, the lecture will also cover vital pulp therapy and how it can be applied in the management of children.
Learning outcomes:
At the end of this lecture you should be:
Have the knowledge of current advances in vital pulp therapy and how it can be implemented in the management of young permanent teeth.
Describe the basic principles employed in the assessment and treatment planning of children in the mixed and permanent dentition including those managed with sedation and general anaesthesia.
The role of paediatric dentists in a multidisciplinary team, by(Prof. Sondos Albadri):
This lecture will focus on the role of paediatric dentists in the management of children with complex dental needs including the diagnosis and management of dental anomalies. Management of children with complex dental trauma and who require orthodontic management. The lecture will discuss a number of cases who require input from other specialities including orthodontics , oral surgery and restorative dentistry.
Learning outcomes:
Recognise the common dental anomalies and how this can influence treatment planning.
Appreciate the role of MDT in the management of children with more complex needs with respect to their dental development Recognise the effect of orthodontic treatment on the prognosis of traumatised teeth and endodontically treated teeth.
Molar incisor hypomineralisation and management of compromised first permanent molars, by(Dr: Judi Humphreys):
This lecture will update delegates on the current research regarding aetiology and management of MIH, including treatment options and considerations for compromised FPM.
Learning outcomes:
Delegates will be able to analyse factors that affect prognosis in FPMs and MIH and apply this to make treatment decisions for their patients.
Safeguarding as Paediatric Dentists in the UK, by(Dr: Judi Humphreys):
This lecture will discuss the common types of abuse against vulnerable children, concerning signs dentists should be aware of and how these concerns are managed within the UK by collaboration between healthcare, policing and social services.
Learning outcomes:
Delegates will have knowledge and understanding of safeguarding practises in the UK, signs of abuse and neglect, and the role of the Paediatric Dentist in protecting children.
Dental management of medically compromised children, by(Dr: Judi Humphreys):
This lecture will highlight the key medical conditions that affect the provision of dental care for children and how care may be adapted to ensure excellent patient outcomes and safety.
Learning outcomes:
Delegates will have knowledge of important medical conditions that affect provision of dental care and apply this when creating treatment plans for these children.
